US billionaires George Soros and Bill Gates are part of the consortium that will acquire the MOlogic, the producer of Great Britain-based Coved Tests, in an effort to boost access to the latest and affordable medical technology anywhere in the world, according to a statement released Monday.
The Soros Fund for Economic Development and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the launch of a new initiative, the Global Access Health (GAH), aimed at empowering the world's spread of medical technology, and the acquisition of Mologic Ltd, best known for Hungarian test technology used for rapid anti-Convidial tests.
According to the statement, the GAH consortium, which includes the philanthropic arms of Soros and Gates, will invest at least $41m in the deal.
Soros and Gates are part of the community of billionaires aiming to direct philanthropic efforts in the so-called global south, primarily referring to regions of Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Ocean, which are feared to be behind as the West has accelerated vaccines and testing programs in recent years.
