Emergency services took three hours to extinguish the fire in the industrial area “Chempark”, where large chemical companies are located. The fire broke out around 9 and 40 minutes of Tuesday morning, Reuters writes.
My thoughts are with the wounded and with their loved ones. We're still asking the deadmen, but the hope of finding them alive is fading”, said industrial area chief where the explosion occurred, Lars Friedrich.
Local police said that of the 31 people injured, five were so seriously affected that they needed intensive care.
Police blocked several roads and asked residents to stay inside houses and residences and keep doors and windows closed. Authorities are analyzing the air quality around the area for possible poisonous gas.
