Rainfalls Sunday, July 18th, have caused some trouble in this municipality, including roadblocks and damage in private homes from water leaks into cellars.
According to Gjilan municipality Chairman Lutfi Haziri, the municipality has made interventions in 25 different cases from 52 calls that have accepted municipal emergency institutions.
He has called on citizens to avoid going to the streets in the afternoon.
The “expectations are that today and Tuesday there will be the intensity of the thickest rains in the Gjilan municipality”, he said.
According to Haziri, thus far the damage from these rainfall is not estimated to be large until they still have no rough monetary figure for these damages.
The Skoled City also experienced heavy rains and hail on Sunday.
Public Services Director in this municipality, Gezim Ejupi, told Radio Free Europe that greater damage has been caused in the agriculture sector.
“There has been considerable damage in Skenderaj quite much from the hail, in agricultural culture, as well as in the family economy and some roofing houses have been knocked down”, he said.
Meanwhile, about 200 people are estimated to have died of floods that have occurred in several European countries, including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic.
More rainfall expected in Kosovo?
Although numerous countries in Europe have seen heavy rainfall these days, until now the Hydrometeorology Institute and meteorologists have not predicted that evil weather in Kosovo will last for many more days.
On Friday (July 16th), the Institute had predicted rainy weather from July 17th to July 19th.
According to this announcement, however, the flow of rivers from the beds does not present the main cause of flooding and heavy damage as a result of rainfall.
The “on major rivers, according to the network of hydrometric stations in Kosovo, is not designed to have intense impacts of levels and water flow, so there will be no danger of river floods”, the announcement said.
