The former Kosovo ambassador to the US has reacted to Foreign Minister Donika Grovalla for her speech today at the Dubrovnik Forum regarding Kosovo's impasse towards EU integration. Geralla at this forum has said Kosovo should do its homework by fighting crime and corruption and should not blame the EU for its mistakes.
Citaku after this statement has recalled the fact that the EU continues to keep Kosovo isolated and has written that Germany's Foreign Affairs Minister has confirmed what the European Commission and Parliament have confirmed that Kosovo has met the criteria for visa liberalisation.
The honoured “Ministry, a few weeks ago in Pristina, Germany's Foreign Affairs Minister confirmed what the European Commission and the European Parliament are now repeating for several years: Kosovo has met all criteria for visa liberalisation. You know, the citizens of Venezuela, Colombia and many others as far as Taiwan can travel without visas to the EU. No one is saying that Kosovo is ready today to be an EU member, because we have yet to do in the fight against corruption, in the rule of law and in the eternity of European values”, Citaku wrote.
She has also said that Gervala's task is to present Kosovo in its best light.
But, to be clear, even within the EU there is no uniformity in implementing values and standards. Not all EU countries are at the level of Finland or Sweden. But, above all, you are Kosovo Foreign Minister. Your task is to crack Kosovo in its best light. Not to tell the truth, but not to distort it”, it wrote.
Gerillas at a panel discussion at the Dubrovnik Forum have hinted that the country has not yet succeeded in EU integration, as well as visa liberalisation.
“Should be assessed, despite all difficulties and setbacks, the European Union has offered us the best it could, the prospect of membership in the most successful project in the history of Europe”.
For this reason, and more for ourselves, we have to do our homework, we have to implement the true rule of law, including the fight against corruption, we have to guarantee freedom of the media, we have to really develop reform in justice... we haven't done it yet, and we have no reason to blame Europe for our mistakes”.
No one here should deceive themselves by saying or thinking that we could have access without fulfilling our homework, Kosovo, our government and our citizens being locked up to divide, cynicism and other alternatives like the so-called mini-sengeni”, Grovall said.
