Previously, school tests were recommended only if several cases of coronary infection had been detected.
But WHO now believes that testing should be done even if students and educational staff do not have symptoms of illness.
The summer months provide governments with an opportunity to take a series of measures that will help reduce the levels of the infected and avoid closing schools”, said Hans Kloge, regional director of O BSH for Europe.
He added that closing schools “has a harmful effect on education, social and mental well-being of children and youth”.
