Kosovo police on Friday, 30 July, have arrested a person in Gjakova, under suspicion of having broken the apartment in which Dragica Gashic, who is the only Serb to have returned to live in Gjakova.
The news has confirmed for Radio Free Europe, Kosovo Police spokesman in Gjakova Nysret Jurkaj. He has said that the suspect, with the initials A.O., born in 1979, has been arrested under suspicion of having broken a residence for thieves' motives.
“Police station in Gjakova has done a great job and has arrested the suspect person in whom the items stolen from the apartment Gashiq is located. The case has already been processed, while suspect A.O., in the presence of the lawyer, has accepted the work he suspected of”, Jurkaj said.
He has added that the case of breaking the apartment where Gashiq lives, there is no ethnic background, stressing that “hehynia does not recognise nationalism or religious belief”.
Dragica Gashiq was back on Tuesday, July 27th, in her apartment after a visit to her sister in Kline.
She had told Radio Free Europe that the case of breaking the apartment had immediately been presented to the Kosovo Police.
As she had said, her personal belongings, food, security cameras and internet equipment were missing at the apartment.
Kosovo police confirmed that the same day, ahead of the facility Gashiq lives in, a police guard was deployed.
At the end of June, Gashic has made efforts to change the apartment's external door and replace it with an armoured one, but police have not allowed him to do so, with the argument that he should obtain municipal permission for something like that.
In early July, the Gjakova municipality has filed charges against Gashi at the Constitutional Court in Gjakova, demanding that she cancel the contract to rent the “residence.
But, Gashiq had told Radio Free Europe that she does not intend to leave her residence in Gjakova.
