Fire at sea was extinguished at 10:45 after breakfast after a gas leak about 500m from a drilling platform, Pemex wrote on Twitter.
They also said no injuries were reported to have occurred.
They took about five hours to put the incident under control.
The company said it used vessels to pump water on underwater fires, even though nitrogen was also used to control the fire, Reuters reports, citing a report of the incident in Pemex.
Mexican publications and journalists reporting the incident share videos showing the shocking scene of the fire.
