Speaking Tuesday about the genocide in Srebrenica, Borrell said that, 26 years later, this date reminds all of the necessity of reconciliation not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but throughout the Western Balkans.
The Srebrenica genocide is internationally recognised. It is one of the darkest events in modern European history. It is in the collective consciousness of those who participated in it and of those who did not prevent it”.
Be clear: attempts to review history, deny genocide and magnifying war criminals have no place in Europe. They must stop and I assure you that they will not be tolerated”, Borrell said.
He made these comments after the EU Stabilisation and Association Council meeting with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Borrell also said Bosnia has not made sufficient progress in the reform process and called on the leaders of this country to meet the conditions for progress towards EU integration.
On 11 July, Bosnia and Herzegovina marked the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre, in which Serb forces killed more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys.
