Through his statements he has depreciated Kosovo's painful past during the 1990s, considering that the most important “is the future”.
Borrell, along with EU envoy for dialogue Miroslav Lajcak today, mediates the second meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq.
He said talks on progress achieved so far and “for steps ahead of us will continue today and how we will continue this dialogue”. Borrell added that he hopes this meeting will be more fruitful in terms of results than the first meeting, held in June.
Kosovo and Serbia need to finally close the chapter of the painful past through a comprehensive, legally binding agreement on normalisation of relations and look towards the European future, for their citizens. The future is more important than the past. The past is important, but we have to look forward to”, Borrell said before the meeting.
Ahead of the trilateral meeting, the parties have held separate meetings with EU special envoy for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak.
This morning's “I held separate meetings with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, to prepare the high level of dialogue meeting that is held this afternoon”, Lajcak wrote on Twitter.
