One pilot was found holding for the tail of the plane in the water, and the other was saved after being found hanging in a package standing on the water, writes The Guardian.
The pilots were running a Boeing 737-,200 plane, which was launched by Honolulu and had Kahului Airport for destination, but soon returned to Honolulu, according to a website for flying.
Shortly thereafter, the coast guard responded to reports of a plane crash south of Oahu, with two people inside.
About two and 30 minutes in the morning, a coast guard helicopter was able to locate the remains of the plane. Searching for survivors, the search-saving teams found one pilot holding for the tail of the plane and taking him to the hospital.
The other pilot was found carrying in several packages and rescued from a rescue department boat, being taken ashore. Both pilots are being controlled by doctors.
The danger of a pilot dying during emergency release is high, especially at night, and especially in the open ocean.
