US President Joe Biden will welcome German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the White House on 15 July, in what is expected to be her last visit as Chancellor.
After a few months Merkel will no longer be in charge of Germany.
Her visit comes two months before parliamentary elections in Germany, which will change leadership in Germany for the first time in 2005.
The meeting in Washington is expected to highlight the continuation and stability of relations between Germany and the US, as well as to confirm the change of access under the administration of President Beden, who has pledged to establish unity with traditional US allies, unlike former US president Donald Trump's diplomacy.
Beden has met with Merkel during the work of the summit of the seven most industrialised (G7) countries, held last month in England.
Biden has later said that from European leaders, the German Chancellor most admires him.
He has also said through a Twitter post that connections between the US and Germany “are more powerful than ever, adding that he is happy to host him at the White House “to continue work”.
At the July 15th meeting, two veteran politicians are expected to discuss the coronary pandemic, for China and the North Stream 2 pipeline project, which carries natural gas from Russia to Germany.
The pipeline project, worth $11 billion, has been rejected by the US.
Washington believes it threatens European energy security.
Beden has given signs in May that he is willing to leave this issue behind, removing certain sanctions against the German subjects involved in the project, with the argument that, since the gas pipeline is almost over, sanctions would harm only European allies.
Merkel, on the other hand, has said that the project means only doing business with Russia, and the project is a matter of national sovereignty.
