“The US and Germany will stand together against Russian aggression”. That was US President Joe Biden's statement after meeting with outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel, who made his last visit to the White House.
Biden said he expressed concern to Merkel about the gas pipeline line linking Russia and Germany, but they agreed that Moscow cannot be allowed to use energy as a weapon.
The White House head also stated that the two allies opposed and China's anti-democratic actions.
“We will continue to stay together to protect our east allies in NATO against Russian aggression”, Biden said at the joint press conference with Merkel.
The American president also said: “We will stand for democratic principles and human rights when we see China or any other country working to undermine free and open societies”.
Beden, among other things, stated before reporters that the US had no plans at the moment to send troops to Haiti amid growing riots following her president's assassination and Cuba.
The two leaders highlighted the friendly nature of their meeting with Merkel, who addressed her host more than once as the dear Joe”, writes A2.
The German leader had a frozen relationship with Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, and occasional tensions, also with George W Bush and Barack Obama.
