Nelson said such actions offend victims and cause pain, in a video message he addressed to the relatives of Srebrenica victims.
He said the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, survivors, families and new generations deserve a peaceful and prosperous future.
On behalf of the people of the United States, I join with all those mourning for more than 8,000 victims killed in Srebrenica in BiH and beyond. Praise of war crimes and war criminals is unacceptable. Such actions offend victims and cause pain to them and their families and undermine the mutual trust everyone in BiH needs to build a stable, prosperous and peaceful future. Those who committed these crimes bear individual responsibilities. The crimes they committed do not bring collective responsibility. The United States stands firm in its support for all in BiH who are willing to work in a spirit of reconciliation. We are focused on creating opportunities for prosperity for all citizens. Victims of the Srebrenica genocide, their families and children deserve a peaceful and prosperous future, where all will have the opportunity to succeed”, Nelson said.
Bosnia and Herzegovina today marks the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre. This massacre, which has been confirmed as genocide, is the worst in Europe since World War II.
In July 1995, Bosnian Serb forces killed over 8 thousand Muslim men and boys in the Srebrenica enclave, which had been designated a secure “ ” country by the United Nations.
