People outside the church who were gathered to express their solidarity with the strikers applauded the announcement.
Another group at the university building also announced that it was suspending the strike. According to an NGO involved, 476 people were on a hunger strike in all, the Guardian reports, translates Periscopi.
The strikers had immediately been taken to the hospital, with some remaining in intensive care unit.
Belgium's government has rejected their demand for collective amnesty, saying the current rules were right and human. /Periscope
