Dafina Berisha, 21-year-old from Kosovo, is wanting to become the first Albanian in the German Bundestag.
It has entered the race as a candidate from the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and promises that, along with party goals, it will be a voice of Albanian rights in the German parliament.
The law student says she has always been ambitious for success as a politician, and since the age of 17 she has entered the SPP as an activist.
We have 9,000 Albanians who have a vote in Hamburg and yet no Albanian is still part of the German Parliament. I want to be the first Albanian in Bundestag to promote even the rights of Albanians in Bundestag, but also of youth”.
Berisha, in an interview in Info Magazine, voiced criticism for failing to organise Albanians in Germany, even though he says there are an estimated 400,000 living in all of Germany in the number.
We have to engage in politics, sports clubs, because only when we're active can we change something. Other foreigners are more organised than in Albanians. There are many intelligent Albanians, but more must be engaged in organisation”.
Moreover, on the SPD candidate list, Berisha is ninth.
She says she had great support from party leaders to run and promote students' rights and students.
The 21-year-old said that Germany also has much to do with what they are seeing in the campaign.
My mother is a nurse and we've seen how bad the conditions are, few workers and small payments. We also aim to increase the minimum wage”.
