West German Attack, Two Killed

Police investigators said one person was killed inside one house while the other was outside. The attack took place in the northwestern town of Espelkamp, which lies west of Hanover.

“Sic maintains things, more looks like a crime than terrorism”, a police spokesman said.

The newspaper “Bild” quoted police as saying the killer seemed to be running without control in the centre of town and that officers have said the attacker is still on the run.

Special police members have come to the scene at Espelkamp, the town of about 20,000 people in the western region of Nord Rhine Westphalen.

The circumstances of the attack are unclear, but authorities say there is no danger to the public. Initial reports told of one dead man, but police later said another is dead.
