Storm and lightning discharges expected, not known which Kosovo countries could be hit in the absence of radar

Since the post-war, Kosovo's Hydrometeorology Institute has no radar system to determine which areas could be hit by storms, as is expected today.

Although the demand has been continuous and the need to equip itself with such a radar, this, according to Faith Ali from IHMK, has always been in deaf ears.

I always say that countries may have storms and lightning blasts, because to determine the country, which will be punished, we don't have radar, and without this device we can't determine”, Aliu said.

“Storms may be of an intensity, roughly like what happened a few days ago in Lipjan, but which places it's not gonna be able to define”, he said.

Aliu said that they have often sought radar equipment but also increased staff, as it is alone in the Institute doing its weather forecasting work, while its demands have not been taken into account.

He said that such radar would be very useful in many sectors, especially farmers.
