Leaders of the right Spanish parties have joined demonstrations against the pardoning of sentences for 12 separatists who were behind the failed independence in 2017.
Protesters accuse the Spanish Socialist government of using this plan to boost political support, the BBC writes, translates Periscopi.
But the government is saying the pardons will help reduce tensions in Catalonia.
The effort of the semi-autonom region for independence plunged Spain into the largest political crisis in 40 years.
Nine Catala leaders were found guilty of rebellion, linked to their role in an illegal referendum on independence. Three others were found guilty of disobedience.
Demonstrators view such forgiveness as a threat to the national unity of the country.
But Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has defended the decision as a form to unite more Catalans with the Spanish.
