“Do not sell Turkey”, Greece “threatens” Germany

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Nikos Dendias has warned Germany not to sell submarines to Turkey, as his move would change its balances in the Aegean Sea in Ankara's favour. The Greek top diplomat held a meeting in Athens with Social Democrats parliamentary group spokesman (SPD) for foreign affairs in the German Parliament, Neils Schmidt.
“I cannot help but express our deep disappointment with the SPD's role in the arms embargo on Turkey. Both Prime Minister Mitsotakis and I have told almost everyone in Germany how necessary it is to preserve the balance in the Aegean”, Dendias said.
Athens has repeatedly urged its EU partners to impose an arms embargo on Turkey, given the escalation of disputes between the two countries in the eastern Mediterranean, which led them to the brink of armed conflict.
Germany, Spain and Italy have blocked Greece's bid to the EU Council, while the SPD recently voted the bill banning submarine exports to Turkey.
Dendias claims that handing over submarines to a country that continues to destabilise the region will change the balance of power at the expense of states that according to him want stability and respect international regulations.
