Sami Lushtaku supports Memli Krasniqi: Best in PDK

The situation created in the country and the outcome of the February 14th elections influenced the Democratic Party of Kosovo's leadership to make a decision on going to the party's domestic elections.

July 3rd will also be the crucial date for the new PDK leader, the long-standing party led by Hashim Thaci and later by Kadri Veselin, both former heads of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who are now in a judicial process at The Hague Special Court.

During yesterday's Kosovo Assembly MP simultaneously vice president of The PDK, Memli Krasniqi, has formalised its candidacy to lead the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

In this regard, news has contacted PDK official Sami Lushtaku. Lushtaku claimed that Memli Krasniqi is one of the best and most respected people in the party.

According to Lushtaku, this is not the right time for domestic elections, but which according to him remains to be seen who else will be the candidate for the party's leadership.

I respect that all those candidates who are PDK believe Memli Krasniqi is one of those highly respected in the Democratic Party, it is also from the very beginning in the PDK and now depends on who's the other candidate. I don't know who else can be candidate”, Lushtaku said.

Asked if it is true that if the latter was the biggest postponement for Krasniqi's candidacy, Lushtaku said that is not true.

According to him, the race is open and that only Krasniqi's candidacy is known for the time being.

The idea for the candidacy of Memli Krasniqi has come from you. No, that's not true. I don't know, the race's open. I don't know who's running. It depends now on who wants to take over the PDK, I believe Memley is one of the best and most respectable people in the PDK, and we firmly believe in his candidacy”, he added.

Lushtaku, among other things, said he respects any decision coming from the PDK's Headship, among them for the party's domestic elections.

“I don't personally know I've been against the elections at this time because there are local elections now, but it's been Enver Hodzat's decision and PDK chairmanship, which I respect innocise”, he said.

Unlike in running for the first PDK, several names have been mentioned, among them Memli Krasniqi, Bedri Hamza, Ismaili Bridge, Vlora Citaku of Gent Cakaj.

It was Cakaj himself who denied such a thing, stressing that for now he is staying away from politics, while Vlora Citaku publicly denied running for PDK direction. There was no statement by Ismail and Hamza until Memli Krasniqi yesterday declared he is already on the run to lead the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

The PDK will hold internal elections after those conducted by the LDK months ago. The results of the recent elections, as well as the refusal of the previous leader, Kadri Veseli, prompted the PDK to organise early elections, which are expected to be held
