Mehmeti said that at the meeting they were focused on media influence in preventing traffic accidents and co-ordinating other activities between the media and the Kosovo Police.
With special emphasis we talked about co-operation on preventing traffic accidents, joint work about prevention and combating crime, where the media have a very important role. We appreciate the role of the media and therefore we met together in order to coordinate our activities and jobs, and continue this fruitful co-operation that we have so far had”, Mehmeti said.
While the number of fatal accidents this year in Kosovo has reached more than 40, the director of the Kosovo Police asked those in traffic to respect the rules in communications to the maximum.
A news report that you probably publish could be more than 20,000 or a thousand fines we pronounce during the day. We are currently accepting information different from citizens and thank all the media and citizens who have the courage to share in different forms various evidence with us that proves various violations. We'll accept all citizen notes and information from the media. I ask the citizens that during the attempt they send a news not to endanger themselves, as they should be careful while driving, because by trying to prove an offense not to commit another offense”, Mehmeti said.
Kosovo Journalists' Association Director Gentiana Begolli has demanded that stories about raising awareness of traffic safety, preventing sexual harassment, domestic violence, occupy more meritive space in news editions.
“We discussed how the media can contribute to advancing active citizenship, how we can promote in what citizens can report to us so that they can be protected from the media and their identity protected, so that they can contribute through their facts, different photos or various evidence to help police in uncover or prevent more serious crimes. What I didn't have a chance to say at this meeting is that wherever this news goes off, we asked that media representatives be involved in this meeting, it's important where it went off. We know we have major political developments in the country and what we are currently facing, but it's important that when it comes to the lives of citizens and their well-being we try to be on the rise of the motivation for active citizenship. We also discussed and requested that the work of journalists dealing with this vital issue for our future be at the top rather than at the end of the editions”, Begolli said.
Attending this meeting for advancing co-operation between the media and the Kosovo Police was the editor of responsibility for the Kosovo News Agency, Ideal Gola.
