At yesterday's Security Council session of the United Nations Organisation (OKB), the United States representative accused Serbia of failing to co-operate with the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which confirmed yesterday the sentence of life imprisonment to criminal Ratko Mladic.
He named it historic yesterday, while highly satisfied with the decision to sentence Mladic.
This is a historic day. Mladic was convicted. Thirty years ago, he and his supporters launched a campaign of ethnic cleansing, and we remember especially the day they entered Srebrenica and killed people. We are pleased with the court's work that collected evidence. The upcoming verdict for Stanisic and Stamatovici”, the US ambassador to the Security Council said.
He stressed that Serbia has failed to meet its obligations, calling on Serbian institutions to arrest Milan Stamatovic (Madic associate) and Jovica Stanisqi (former chief of Mladic) The Serbian UDB, wanted for witness intimidation.
“We are very disappointed that Serbia has not met its obligations and has not arrested two people for intimidation of witnesses. Serbia is a member of the UN, and as a country with important international obligations, it is obliged to co-operate with the tribunal. We call on Serbia to arrest wanted persons without delay”, the US representative said.
The House of Appeals of the United Nations International Criminal Court yesterday has sentenced Serbian criminal Ratko Mladic to life imprisonment. Thus, the first degree decision has been confirmed.
The trial of the terrible Serbian general began in May 2012, and ended on December 15, 2016. He was arrested in Lazarevo in May 2011, after hiding for 12 years and extradited to The Hague.
