A task force will share data that has collected on the unusual flight phenomena with the American Congress, while UFO enthusiasts are enjoying themselves. But a decades-old German expert under his care does not believe aliens have ever been on Earth.

If You Are Interested UFOs and you've always wondered what exactly the American government and intelligence services know about them, June could be a big month for you. Task the Unidentified Air Framework Force (UAP), a group within the US Department of Defence (DOD), is set to submit an unattended report to Congress this month about the knowledge Pentagon officials have gathered about unidentified air phenomena and how they handle data they have managed to collect.

Roswell a balloon or UFO
UAP is the official term that military and researchers, who do not prefer the word UFO, use when talking about objects in the sky flying without any visible form of thrust in models that challenge our physical knowledge. So: The US Department of Defence will tell US representatives and senators what they have learned about unidentified flying objects in their country's airspace.

And the public will hear everything about it (though there may be a delay between the presentation in Congress and the publication of the full report to the general public). Far from being involved in secret military sites, which conspiracy theories are sure to have continued since the UFOs were likely toppled in Roswell, New Mexico, in the summer of 1947, but for a live report.

The documented trials gathered by the army

Avi Loeb, professor of science at Harvard University and Director of the Institute for Theory and Accounting at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, told DW what makes this such an important case.

“This new report is different from past discussions on flight IDs (UFO) or Unidentified Air Fenomen (UAP) in what included documented evidence gathered by military personnel based on many instruments (radars, infrared cameras, optical cameras),” Loeb wrote on an email.

Prof. Avi Loeb
The information presented in the report is likely to indicate the possible existence of objects being brought in ways that cannot be explained by technologies that we possess”.

95% of cases have a concrete explanation

A Gallup survey from 2019 showed that one third of American adults believed that, in at least some cases, UFO observations included foreign spacecraft. Hans-Werner Peiniger interested in The UFO at age 15 has investigated them for almost 50 years. The head of the UNFO Research Society (GEP) in Germany says the vast majority of views, however, have natural or man-made explanations.

“since 1972, we have seen approximately 4,500 views of” reported to GEP by witnesses, Peiniger told DW. “are only about 5% for which we could not find any understandable explanation. ”

The rest, says Peiniger, are often helium balloons of the type you see at fairs, insects on flight that can appear as a flying disk in pictures, weather phenomena, or satellites. And for 5% more: “maybe they're natural phenomena that we just can't explain yet”.

Why is the report being presented now?

It's no coincidence Congress members will get more information on UAP this month. A detailed report by the UAP Task Force was a requirement in the $3.3 billion spending package (.8 billion euros) Congress approved in December 2020. Within six months, according to the specified legislation, the Department of Defence and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence would have to present a detailed <x0-analysis of detailed data and intelligence of unidentified air phenomena”.

Democrats and Republicans demanding a report about unidentified flying objects, a topic that not long ago was the competence of fans of science fiction films, conspiracy theories and enthusiasts over aliens, shows that the possibility of alien intelligence is far less absurd for high-level American officials now than it once was.

The move came at the end of a year with some important developments for UAP. In April 2020, DOD officially released three videos taken by Navy pilots who were discovered years ago. The records showed objects whistling through the sky in a way that was strange enough to attract pilot attention.

First Object in Japan
DOD confirmed the authenticity of the videos years after UFO enthusiasts had already analysed every second of Internet images “to remove any misconceptions from the public whether the footage they circulated were real or not, or whether they had more videos”, according to a Pentagon press release. “The surveillance airmen in the video remain marked as unidentified “”.

No common case reported around UFOs

Less than four months later, the Unidentified Air Fenomen Identified Force was formed and its researchers will now submit their findings to Congress. Harvard Professor Loeb, who published the book “Aliens earlier this year: The first sign of intelligent life across Earth”, says the navy cannot review old videos and that officials must continue to seek evidence.

“Instead of declassifying documents reflecting old technologies used by witnesses without any scientific expertise, it would be much better to install modern registration equipment... in countries where reports came from and request unusual signals,” Loeb wrote on his e-mail to DW.

Peiniger says that after many of the cases he's investigated, he's very skeptical that any sight of UAP is an alien spaceship. If there really were extraterrestrial intelligence that came to visit us, they would have to have some thing in common with their UFOs,” he highlighted the alleged form of spacecraft or flying patterns, for example. “But we didn't find anything like that in the cases we considered. ” “ ”
