The U.S. is currently reducing its anti-aircraft protection in the Middle East, having reinforced it in 2019 and 2020 due to tensions with Iran, the Pentagon noted by confirming the Wall Street Journal's information.
Defence Minister Lloyd Austin ordered (...) this summer's withdrawal from the region of several forces and capacities, mainly antiaircraft protection equipment”, a Pentagon spokeswoman, French captain Jessica McNulty, stressed in a communique.
Some of these devices will be sent to the US for a maintenance and repairs that are needed. The rest will be restored to other areas”, she added.
The spokeswoman did not elaborate whether these devices would be restored to the Indo-peaceary region, where the Pentagon seeks to focus its efforts in the face of China's empowerment.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon began in early June the withdrawal of eight anti-missile batteries from Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. / AFP/
