Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama, North Macedonia's Zoran Zaev, and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq held an online meeting today within the Balkan Schengen, where further steps in regional co-operation were discussed as a vital process for Western Balkans' progress and European path were discussed.

The three leaders reportedly discussed further expansion of co-operation, with the aim of removing obstacles to the movement of people, capital, goods and services between the three countries and the region, and this begins to be implemented as soon as possible throughout the region.

They agreed that the Western Balkan countries need membership in the European Union, but also that the European Union needs the Western Balkans as much, as the region is surrounded by EU borders and the countries aspiring membership share common European co-operation values.

They agreed to meet in Skopje on July 29th to review progress in implementing existing initiatives and projects and to sign additional agreements between the three countries regarding the implementation of Berlin Process commitments, as well as co-operation and assistance in case of natural disasters, reliefs for trade, export and import, writes Alsat M.

In November 2020, Vuciq and Rama signed an agreement enabling the citizens of Serbia and Albania to enter the territory of the two countries with an identity card.

During the same meeting, leaders of Albania, Northern Macedonia and Serbia signed a memorandum for co-operation in the fight against pandemic.

According to the memorandum, the three countries would share information on pandemics and travel to these countries would not be required tampons.
