Derek Chauvin, former police officer who killed George Floyd in Minneapolis last year, was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison Friday.
Chauvin, in an open grey suit, tie and white shirt, spoke shortly before his sentence, offering his “condolences to the Floyd” family, CNN reports.
Chauvin, 45, was sentenced in April on charges of unintentional second degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree murder.
The convicted of murder, facing a long stay in prison, gave condolences to George Floyd's family Friday at the former police officer's detention hearing.
Floyd's death began mass protests across the globe, as well as incidents of plunder and unrest.
