The Kosovo Police Inspectorate has arrested five police officials, suspected of using their force to citizens, during an incident that had occurred last July in Prizren.

According to the IPK regarding this case, sufficient evidence is being received, including the recordings that have been published in the media these days.

Meanwhile, a sergeant and four police officials have ended up in police handcuffs.

The measures of the ban have also been imposed for 48 hours, as well as suspended by official duty.

Kosovo's Police Inspectorate had accepted a complaint over a citizen's claims to exceed police authorisation during the use of force by several police officials in an incident that had occurred in July last year in Prizren.

IPK investigators after the case's admission have been engaged by taking investigative action regarding this case in co-ordination with the Founding Prosecutor in Prizren, which has included receiving statements from eyewitnesses, as well as securing some audio recordings last days.

Following the investigative actions, in consultation with Prizren's prosecution, IPK investigators have arrested today five police officials who were involved as suspects in the incident (a sergeant and four police officials all employees in the Special Operations Unit).

Their arrest has been made on suspicion that the same were committed criminal work “mishandled during the exercise of a formal task” and “slight bodily delivery”, while with the Constitutional Prosecutor's decision in Prizren, the same have been assigned a 48-hour ban measure and suspended from duty.

Further investigative actions concerning this case to clarify the circumstances of this incident will continue by IPK investigators in continued consultation with the prosecutor responsible.
