Petritsch: I don't think dialogue brings results this year, but it shouldn't waste time

Wolfgang Petritsch, former European Union representative for Kosovo, has said the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia should be quality and that to achieve it it should not be hasty. However, he recommends that time not be squandered and an adequate moment used when, at the top of the US, is Joe Biden and that he has shown support of the dialogue, Kosovo reports.
Time certainly is out of place and I believe it should not waste time, but we must be more focused on the talks even though it still takes time. It may not have been done enough in the early years, but there has been a range of reasons for that, remembering that there was no powerful government in Pristina. This and other problems have also contributed to dialogue that did not meet expectations”.
“Now certainly with Lajcak and with full support of the Biden Administration, which was not so a year ago. I believe and I'm optimistic, but I wouldn't say that dialogue will bring results this year, that means that we don't focus too much on time, but rather focus on content and the quality of the deal”.
Petritsch has said that peace is extremely important for the region after a terrible conflict,
I believe there will eventually be a peace treaty. But before that, what the negotiating parties have to achieve between them is to achieve it peacefully, not through conflict. This means talking to each other and meeting the goals of the European Union as a facilitating side of dialogue”.
He in an interview in Info Magazine has said it is important for the dialogue process that Kosovo already has a government which has the parliamentary majority meaning that the negotiating side is more powerful when there are people behind.
