US Special Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Matthew Palmer, among other things during the visit to Serbia, has been declared before the media even in terms of Prime Minister Albin Kurti's dedication to dialogue.
Asked by the Serbian medium N1 if the will for dialogue is valid for Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who earlier said talks with Belgrade were not his priority, Palmer said that “had the impression that Kurti and his government absolutely ready to engage in the” dialogue.
Palmer also spoke of the final agreement between the two sides, which he said points do not define the US, but Kosovo and Serbia.
A deal is broken into everything the two sides agree on. And our goal is to encourage the parties to sit together, show what their red lines are, what they can't and what they can't do. We do not determine the agenda, nor do we determine the outcome. They run the whole process”, Palmer said.
Kurti, along the election campaign, claimed that based on measurements of public opinion on the ground, dialogue with Serbia was ranked of the sixth or seven”, so it said it is not the priority of his government.
Then, after taking power and being pressured by international factors towards it, he said he would try to make a consensus to put dialogue in fourth place.
We do not want to avoid dialogue and underestimate its importance, but we consider that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo have chosen us to bring justice and employment, and of course it is urgent to deal with the David-19 pandemic. On the basis of all measurements of public opinion in Kosovo, when you ask citizens what importance you give dialogue with Serbia is usually in sixth or seventh place, I will be able to make a concession and bring it to fourth place after justice, employment and pandemic, but cannot bring the two top priorities”, Kurti said.
The chief of executive, ahead of reforms in justice and employment issues, will deal with dialogue. In mid-June, he is expected to meet with Serbia's prime minister, Aleksandar Vuciq, for continuing dialogue between the two countries.
