Osman in Austria: With Serbia no solution other than mutual recognition with Kosovo's current borders

Osmani at the joint conference with her Austrian counterpart, Alexander Van der Bellen, was also asked by reporters about Kosovo's stance concerning dialogue with Serbia, which is continuing with EU mediation in Brussels.

She said the EU must make clear to Serbia that it cannot play with two cards, but that it should clarify its position.

No solution other than mutual recognition with Kosovo's current borders could bring lasting peace to our region. I think the EU should be clear with Serbia that it cannot play with two cards, even with Russia and the EU. She cannot sit in two chairs at the same time. She has to choose what her real path is, not to pretend to be pro-European on one side, and to increase co-operation in every sphere with Russia, risking our entire region from Russian influence”, she said at the joint conference with her Austrian counterpart.

Osmani further said Serbia in Kosovo has committed many crimes and what our country wants is only justice, not revenge.

It invited Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq to at least place a flower in Batajnica in honour for hundreds of Albanian children and civilians killed during the war in Kosovo.

Osmani reiterated that justice is the precondition for lasting peace in the region.

For these crimes there is still no justice and apology from Serbia. I extend an invitation to President Vuciq to at least place a flower in Batajnica in the mass cemetery where hundreds of young children, women who were killed during the war in Kosovo, have been found. What I have to say is that to succeed in any process, not only between Kosovo and Serbia, but history has always witnessed when there has been war and injustice what has been the precondition for achieving lasting peace, justice has been. So we as Kosovo seek justice do not seek revenge. They ask us to return the remains of missing persons so that their families have a place to put a flower”, he said.

President Osmani, during his meeting with Van der Bellen, said she discussed Austria's support for Kosovo on the European road, the visa liberalisation process, membership in international organisations, as well as concreteising co-operation for the advancement of the Green Agenda.

During the official visit to Austria, President Osmani will also meet with Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Furity, innovation and Leonore Geeesler technology, with which the possibility of co-operation in concrete interstate projects will be considered.

President Osmani will meet with other state and institutional officials.

A meeting is envisioned with the Austrian Friendship Association Kosovo, the Kosovo diaspora, as well as the Austrian Economic Ode. Meanwhile at the Vienna Diplomatic Academy, President Osmani will hold a lecture on the “Funding of Kosovo citizenship- Challenges and stories of success”.

Osman's visit to Austria comes after her stay in Turkey, where she participated in the annual summit of the Southeast Europe Co-operation Process (SEECP) and the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya.
