The Kosovo Health Ministry has not found out when the arrival of anti-coronvirus vaccines -- purchased by Pfizer, the company with which the Kosovo Government reached agreement on 1.2 million doses of the vaccine, which are expected to come to Kosovo by the end of this year.
From the Health Ministry, they said this process has entered a new dynamic and that it is increasing intensity, stressing that on 15 June, implementation of the Action Plan for mass vaccines is expected to begin, for what preparations are being made in Pristina and in all Kosovo municipalities.
The American pharmaceutical company Pfizer, on Saturday 29 May, has confirmed to Radio Free Europe reaching agreement with the Government of Kosovo, but from this company, have added that the amount and period of sending vaccines to Kosovo remains confidential.
“Agreements on doses and delivery time are reached in compliance with governments, as well as with the Government of Kosovo and details are confidential”, it is said in response.
Currently in Kosovo, according to the Ministry, vaccine contingents are coming every week as part of the donation from the World Health Organisation's COVAX programme and the European Union. By June 2nd, close to 7,000 people have been vaccinated in Kosovo.
Isme Humolli, professional emergency official at the World Health Organisation (OBSH) in Kosovo, tells Radio Free Europe, that the vaccine process under way is the joint result of the World Health Organization, U n NICEF and the Health Ministry.
We can say that for a while, Kosovo will have considerable vaccines for the vaccination of citizens. It is a process that is continuing, perhaps not with the desired number of vaccinated but which is stable and this process is expected to grow with mass inoculation, which the ministry has already suggested will begin on June 15th of this year”, Humolli said.
With the start of mass inoculation, on the basis of the plan, a total of 279 teams have been established for all Kosovo municipalities.
“As far as the commitment of medical staff is concerned, 190 specialists' commitment is planned and the recruiting of 422 nurses to support the vaccine process against COVID-19”, except for others in the plan.
The plan envisions vaculation of up to 500,000 citizens per month on the entire territory of Kosovo, depending on the doses of vaccines that are available.
Last Thursday, Kosovo has accepted a container of over 100,000 Pfizer Company vaccines from COVAX.
Currently, individuals aged 65 to 79 are being vaccinated after vaccinated persons over 80, those with chronic illnesses and health staff.
The Kosovo government aims to vaccinate 60 percent of its population by the end of the year.
As for cases affected by COVID-19, according to the University Hospital Clinic Service (SHSKUK), there are currently 136 patients in treatment, out of them, three are in serious health condition and 96 are under Okisgenia-therapy assistance. And the number of patients extended to regional hospitals is currently 48.
The National Institute of Public Health in Kosovo (IKSHPK), on June 2nd, has recorded 18 cases of coronary infection, following testing 2,325 samples and no victims.
