The president and his government failed to mobilise supporters with 68 per cent of voters who did not go to the polls at all. A unprecedented degree of abstention in elections, reports Guardian, translated Periscope in Albanian.
If there was any consolation for the ruling party, it was that the extreme rightist party led by Marine Le Pen failed to get votes that gave him the polls.
The first results showed that the only winners were several centre-right parties, including the main opposition people of Les Republicains, who were supported by 29.3 percent of the vote. Marine Le Pen's party received 19.1 per cent, while Macron's party received only 10.9 per cent.
Aurora Berge, MP from Macron's party, said the result was a “democratic facial slap. ”
I won't minimize what happened,” she said.
