The preliminary results from 2008 polling give the party “Civil Caltra” 54% of the vote.
The opposition coalition led by former President Robert Cochryan came in second, but with a large distance. They only took 21 percent. This block claims the election was a fraud.
Armenian citizens were called to the polls after losing the fight against Azerbaijan for the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Last year, Azerbaijan took control of a large generation of mountains in the region, which it had lost during the first Nagorno-Karabakh war in 1988-1994, the BBC reports.
The region is both internationally known as part of Azerbaijan.
Early in the morning, Mr. Pasinyan announced victory in the elections by calling on supporters to gather in Yerevan's main square.
