NATO supports dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, facilitated by the European Union, and remains committed to continuing its engagement in Kosovo through the KFOR mission. These are two, among many points agreed on in Brussels, the member states of the largest military coalition in the world.
In this NATO statement, which is mentioned among other things as the threats facing the world from countries like China and Russia, it said that the Western Balkans are a strategic region for the alliance, so they remain committed to providing stability.
“We value NATO-Serbia partnership. Strengthening relations between the two sides would benefit the Alliance, Serbia and the entire region. We support EU facilitated dialogue and other efforts aimed at normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina, and encourage the parties to exploit this moment and engage with confidence towards achieving a sustainable political solution”, it says.
On the other hand, according to this statement, NATO remains committed to ensuring stability in the Western Balkan region.
“Western Balkans remains region of strategic importance for NATO, as highlighted by our long history of co-operation and operations. NATO remains strongly committed to the security and stability of the Western Balkans and to support the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of countries in the region. We will intensify our efforts in the region and strengthen our political dialogue and practical co-operation in order to support reform efforts, promote regional peace and security. Democratic values, rule of law, internal reforms and good neighbourly relations are vital for regional co-operation and Euro-Atlantic integration”, the declaration continues.
As for Kosovo, NATO says it will continue its commitment through the KFOR mission, which aims to contribute to the security and stability of the region.
“We remain committed to NATO's continued commitment to Kosovo, including through the KFOR Mission, which contributes to a safe and secure environment in order to provide stability in the Western Balkans and build the capacities of security institutions in Kosovo. Any change in our position for KFOR remains based on conditions, not on the terms of”, said further in this statement.
The NATO Summit also mentioned reports with the alliance with Russia, which were said to be at the lowest point since the end of the Cold War.
Tensionsome reports were also named China, this country, which was called on to show maturity and not promote tensions.
