After meeting with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, KMF Executive Director Donjeta Kelmendi told Kosovo that the two heads of state raised issues of the plight of children in Kosovo. Child poverty, violence [...]
Child poverty, domestic violence, psychological violence, as well as the difficulties disabled children face in Kosovo are some of the problems Kelmendi mentioned to the President and prime minister as he sought to create specific degrees for social services.
“As a coalition, we have raised several issues concerning the situation of children in Kosovo, as we know we have a high degree of child poverty in Kosovo, about 22..8% of children in Kosovo live in poverty when 7 of them live in extreme poverty. We have a high degree of use of violence in domestic environments, violence continues to be used as a discipline method”, she said.
From the ASC and U report NICEF, published in 2020, 72% of children say they have been victims of physical and psychological violence in Kosovo, as well as 5% of children in Kosovo work.
“Based on report published in 2020 by AKS and U The NICEF report reveals that about 72% of children in Kosovo claim that they have been victims of physical violence or even psychological violence that is a very high degree of domestic violence use, we have children involved in hard work, according to this 5% report of children in Kosovo are involved in work”, she said.
The challenges in Kosovo are facing even disabled children, they lack quality health, social services, as well as many of them are not part of the education process.
“We have a serious economic situation even of children with limited capacity 8% of children in Kosovo stated that they have functional difficulties in a certain area, disabled children do not have quality health and social services, and a large part of them are not part of the” education process, she said.
The KOMF's main requirement to state institutions on children's day is to create specific grants for social services.
“Invesions are very small in the area of child rights protection...1.56 only 1% of the budget from the central level during 2020 has been divided for social services...2:15 Our main request on this June 1st has been to create specific degrees for social services under the local government finance law”, she said.
