Israeli officials said on Friday that Israel would grant at least one million vaccines for the Palestinian Authority as part of the customs exchange agreement. The move is expected to empower the vaccine campaign in Gaza and the West Coast.
Under the terms of the deal, brought by the office of the new Israeli prime minister, Naphtali Bennett, the Palestinian Authority has agreed to give Israel the same number of vaccines when supplied later this year.
“Israel will transfer the Palestinian Authority 1 to 1.4 million doses of Pfizer vaccine. The doses that will be submitted were expired soon, and they were approved, taking into account the fact that vaccine reserves in Israel meet the needs today”, said a joint statement by the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defence.
A source at the Palestinian Authority's Health Ministry confirmed the agreement and said Palestinians expect these vaccines to receive in August or September, Reuters writes,
Israel, which has been an example around the world for rapid population vaccines, has faced criticism that has not done much more for Palestinians to have access to vaccines.
About 55 percent of the Israelites who meet their vaccination conditions have already received both doses. According to Palestinian officials, only 30 percent of Palestinians meeting the conditions for vaculation have received at least the first dose.
