Germany's authorities announced they have arrested a Russian national on charges of sending sensitive information from a German university in Moscow.
The suspect was identified only as Ilnur N. and according to the announcement he has made the move in exchange for a payment. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office through a statement on 21 June said the “suspect had been working for a Russian secret service since early October 2020”.
On June 18th, security forces arrested him and sent him into custody.
He reportedly worked as a research assistant at a German university, whose name did not become known. The suspect has met a member of a Russian secret service at least three times between October 2020 and June 2021. According to prosecutors, in exchange for a payment, he has handed in information at least two of these meetings.
Waiting for a possible indictment, a judge at the Federal Court has ordered the detention measure for the suspect.
