Police have not hinted of any motive for shooting. They say there is no threat to the public.
The suspected gunman is 52, from Diepenau. Police quoted by the DPA said the man who died was at age 48. The woman was fatally injured and could not be brought back to life, they said, giving no further details about the victims.
It's said the police are now negotiating with the armed person to make him surrender. The additional police have joined research by the Nordrain-Westfalen region.
