During a meeting of a European Union parliamentary commission, European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas said a recent guide from the European Centre for Prevention and Control of Diseases (ECDC) indicates that variant Delta is expected to account for 70% of all new cases in Europe by August and 90% by the end of that month.
According to him, ECDC scenarios suggest that further reliefs of the coronary security restrictions would lead to “a significant increase in daily cases in all age groups with an increase in hospital stays and possibly deaths“.
Schinas added that he had doubts about the decision that London's Wembley Stadium hold the semifinal match, or final, of the European football championship with high capacity.
He said that given Britain's travel restrictions regarding Europe, “should have a symmetry between these decisions”.
“EFA would do well to analyze its “decision carefully, he added.
The British government has said Wembley stadium will be allowed to develop the semifinals and finals of Euro 2020 with at least 60,000 fans.
New British Health Minister Sayed David told Parliament on Monday that he sees no reason for the government not to proceed with its plan to remove all restrictions in the country by 19 July.
