Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation in co-operation with the UNFPA Office in Kosovo and the National Institute of Public Health have launched manuals in terms of sexual inclusion education in Kosovo today.
At the launch ceremony, he told them that through these mitters the country's young will gain knowledge based on science on how to protect their health, welfare, and dignity.
Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Arberie Nagavci said that sexual education from the early age is an important preventative factor of various diseases.
Our children and young people in Kosovo have the right to receive a reliable, comprehensive and science-based information. And teachers are responsible for providing reliable information and helping our young ones to be careful about their lives and health. Since Kosovo has a very new population, with over 50 per cent at the age of 25, this is obviously an invaluable asset to us. At the same time, however, there is also a challenge, since these very young men from 15 to 25 are at the highest risk of sexually transmitted infections than other age groups. That way sexual education from early age is an important preventative factor of developing different diseases and reducing deviable behaviors in the puberty phase and later”, she said.
The United Nations Development Co-ordinator in Kosovo, Ulrika Richardson, said that the integration of these gloves into school curriculums is a very important step towards gender equality.
So for me this is the basis for a society where we respect each other more, we know more about rights and we know to respect other people's rights, for me that's the most important thing now that you have in your curriculum. I want to congratulate Kosovo on this decision to integrate and have this sweeping sexual education as part of education in schools, this is a very important step in your journey towards gender equality, the empowerment of women, diversity and a society that is free of violence, gender-based discrimination, where children go to schools and have enough space in school which is safe and respectable<1>, she said.
While the leader of the UNFPA Office in Kosovo, Visare Mujko-Niman, said that comprehensive sexual education enables young people to protect their health, well-being and dignity.
Subsequent sexual education enables young people to protect their health, welfare, and dignity. Because these programmes are based on human principles and rights, they advance gender equality and youth rights and empowerment, sweeping sexual education empowers young people to know and to ask for their rights. Information on inclusive sex education should be transferred to young people literally by well-trained teachers to help young people develop self-confidence and vital skills that encourage critical thought, clear communication, responsible decision making and respectful conduct”, she said.
Gloves include content that can be used by 1-12 and are extenuating materials for teaching that serve to develop learning.
