Varhely speaking at a media conference with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama at the Balkan Leaders Summit, said earlier this region must function as the only market.
“We are ready to reconfirm our commitment that we have put on the table with the economic investment plan. We have shown that in autumn they mobilise almost 30 billion euros in investment form in the region, but this plan will not work unless the region functions as a whole, unless we have a regional market”, Varhely said.
There's no point in building highways if all major vehicles stop at the different border points between borders every 100 kilometers. There is no point in working more for these railways if even trains are faced in difficulties or new trade routes if there are 6 different types of certificates for goods or taxes. This economic plan will produce its results if this region itself works for this regional market and this is the environment where this regional market will function”, he added.
Rama has also restored the topic of the Mini-Shengen project.
“The project of what I call regional Schengen, someone else calls Mini-Sengen, is a strategic project with extraordinary, economic, social benefits and at the political end of our region, and I'm glad that the synergy of this vision with the EU is complete. The Berlin process is the beginning and we are on the ground when we are possessing the process and I hope that the Berlin process itself will fully pass into the EC's hands, under the commission's president's leadership with the will and ambition that the July 5th meeting will be the last to take place in the current” format, Rama has indicated.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is also participating in this meeting.
