Dutch parents ask for TikTok's compensation in the name of their children

They are demanding a total of more than 1.4 billion euros, the Dutch Market Research Foundation (SOMI) announced today. According to the foundation, there are more than 64,000 parents.
The reason given is that TickTok collects data for minors without permission for targeted advertising. In addition, children are exposed to dangers through so - called challenges in which platform users urge each other to commit dangerous acts.
The SOMI Foundation is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to protecting the basic rights of internet service users, according to the website.
TickTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. The platform operator has earlier announced it is taking steps to boost the safety of new users.
Under the terms of TikTok's use, minors need the consent of their caretakers. Children under 13 are not allowed to use service.
The company shows on its website that users have access to privacy definitions so that those of “select the values that suit them”.
