Former US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has died at the age of 88 in New Mexico, his family announced on Wednesday (June 30th).
“over six decades of his service, history can remember him for his extraordinary achievements”, the family said in a statement.
Rumsfeld, a former member of the House of Representatives, served as Secretary of Defence during George W. Bush, and is known as one of the main architects of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Rumsfeld monitored attacks on Al-Qaeda bases in Afghanistan following the 11 September terrorist attacks in the US. From the US military intervention very soon the Taliban were ousted from power and a newly elected democratic government was established, writes relief.
In 2003, American forces ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein from power, but after that, they failed to maintain order and order.
