Five people are dead after a rare hurricane accompanied by hail the size of a tennis ball has hit several villages in Moravia, southeast of the Czech Republic.
According to officials, at least 83 people have been injured and 45 of them have been admitted to a hospital in the town of Hodon.
The worst affected area is the village called Lucice, where 100 to 120 homes have been destroyed or damaged, according to the mayor of this municipality, Thomas Klasek, reports CNN.
The situation was described as alarming with roofs of ruined homes and buildings, broken windows, flooded cars, and debris scattered throughout the streets.
About 100 firefighters, including additional crews from Austria and Slovakia, are helping to recover in co-operation with urban search and rescue teams, according to the state's Interior Minister, Jan Hamacek.
