Oxfordshire is working to become an area completely free of tobacco. The country is also planning to stop smoking in foreign environments until 2025.
If things go according to plan, Oxford will become the first country in England but also in Europe to do something like that.
Currently, according to Oxford Mail, 12% of Oxford population smoke. But the number of active smokers must drop to a 5% or less quota so that the goal of a nonsmoking country can be achieved.
Some 7 million people have been identified as smokers in the United Kingdom in 2019, while recent statistics show that over 1 million people have quit smoking since the Cronavirus pandemic struck.
This may have led doctors to warn that smokers may be more at risk from showing severe symptoms of COVID-19.
According to the NHS, smoking is one of the greatest causes of death and disease in the United Kingdom. Passive smoking (baptism in an environment where someone else smokes) also increases risk factors for the same health problems as smokers
