“Researchers discovered the unscathed egg during excavations in an ancient pit”, the Israeli Authority announced today.
Even at the global level, this is an extremely rare” discovery, Lee Perry Gal of Israel's Authority of Antiquities and a leading expert on birds in the ancient world said in a statement.
Unfortunately, the egg had a small opening, which means most of the fluid was out. Only a few compositions from the egg's yellow was still present, to have an opportunity for DNA analysis in the future”, he added.
The chicken egg dates back to the Islamic period.
Excavations were held in the town of Javne.
