In a statement by Chowess First Nation and the Federation of Sovereign Ingens First Nations says that “the number of unmarked graves will be the highest so far in Canada. ”
Last month, the remains of 215 children, some young ones only 3 years, were buried in a place where it once was Canada's largest residential school.
New details in the case are expected in a press conference today.
The last school had operated from 1899 to 1997.
From the 19th to the 1970 ' s, more than 150 thousand indigenous children had learned in government - funded Christian schools as part of the program to assimilate into Canadian society.
They were forcibly converted to Christianity and were not allowed to speak in their own language.
Many had been beaten and abused blindly, among which as many as 6 thousand are believed to have died.
The Canadian government has apologised in Parliament in 2008 and has acknowledged sexual and physical abuse in its schools. /Periscope
