Officials reported an increase in version cases Wednesday, in over 200 cases.
Almost half of the population over 12 million people have been quarantined in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Darwin, Townsville and Gold Coast. On Wednesday, the city of Alice Springs also entered a deadlock after increasing cases in South Australia.
Local officials are concerned that the virus could spread to Aboriginal communities. The state said it is facing a difficult situation after increasing cases. Most have called for accelerating the vaccine campaign, as only 5% of the population has been vaccinated.
After several months, when the country was thought to have eliminated the virus, Delta blasts have shaken Australia. The Delta variation was discovered in five out of eight cities just two weeks after the version spread to Sidney.
