He has spent much of his life running away from law and law authorities.
Having been on the run in Belize for a while, he was arrested in Guatemala after his neighbor was found dead. Police had described him as “person of interest” in this case.
However, as in many other situations, he somehow managed to escape.
McAfee became famous in the '80s after launching the antivirus company.
His success brought him a lot of money, but during his lifetime, McAfee seemed to be as good at losing money as he could create.
In 2008, he had gone to Belize, where he shot at living near a person named Gregory Faul.
In November 2012, Faul was killed in his home.
Over the entire five years I've been there, maybe I've just said 14 words to him,” he told the BBC, translates Periscope.
But their relationship deteriorated because of McAfee dogs believed to have been poisoned.
There was a constant quarrel. Yeah, he was mad at my dogs. Maybe now I started thinking, maybe he poisoned them.
Anyway, the police had come looking for McAfee for the neighbor's murder, but he wasn't home.
When police arrested him in Guatemala, many believed that he would stand trial for the murder of Faul. Within weeks, however, he was released and allowed to fly to Miami as a free person.
In 2016, McAfee announced he wanted to run for president of the United States as the Libertarian party's candidate.
He campaigned to end the “drug battle” and build a better US protection against cyberattacks of China and Russia.
But it was unsuccessful.
Just about this time he started promoting crypto-valuta.
The Verge had reported that he was receiving $15,000 for a Twitter post to promote initial offers for crypto-valuta.
He was making big money.
And in October 2020, he was arrested in Spain while taking the plane to Turkey.
He was charged with failing to announce his taxes for four years, despite receiving millions of euros for the jobs done.
Prosecutors believed that McAfee owed America about $4 million in taxes.
While staying in prison in Spain, McAfee was also indicted for other charges.
He claimed he believed the US government had ulterior motives in its extradition request. Factor believed it was his intention to compete as the Liberal Party candidate.
McAfee believed that if he was extradited to the United States he would spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Within hours, he was found dead in his cell. The lawyer believes he killed himself.
But he was also a complex and wrong-doing man whose much - wide life had many dark turns and self-destructive actions. /Periscope
