Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has visited the KLA General Staff in Divjaka today.
Attending Divjaka were former KLA commanders Sylejman Selimi and Agim Ceku.
In Divjaka, Albin Kurti said that June 12th we always remember, and we are always proud that for Kosovo's freedom we organized a liberation war by gaining not only the long-awaited freedom, but also the friendship and support of NATO with which we lined up straight and we came off victorious.
Albin Kurti's full speech:
Dear President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Vjosa Osmani,
Dear Speaker of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Glauk Konjufca,
Honored General Agim Ceku and Sylejman Selimi,
Honored KSF Chief General, Mr Enver Cikaqi,
Honored ministers and deputies,
Dear KLA warriors, veterans and disabled, family of martyrs,
Dear political prisoners,
Dear attenders,
After the Serbian Army's 1998 fall offensive, the General Staff of the Kosovo Liberation Army moves from Likoci here to Divjaka. These mountain ranges, with the villages of Divjaka, Berisha and Kleqka, became the largest and most powerful organisational bases of the KLA, led by the General Staff, which was located here. This house and this place, not by chance, became a KLA shelter. In these areas and homes, the activities of numerous organizations and activists who worked for the freedom of their homeland were taken refuge and developed, such as Africa Gitia.
The reshuffle of the Liberation Army with the deployment of the General Staff in Divjaka marked an important step in maintaining easier communication lines even with other areas, but not only: the configuration of this country as a very strategic position enabled The KLA develops a combat strategy that is offensive, but also defensive of its positions by failing to allow Serbian forces' progress towards key KLA bases, such as General Staff, Military Hospital, Radio headquarters “Free Kosovo” and Kosovopress” news agency.
This country was never trampled on by Serb forces, even though it had multiple attacks, not only by infantry, but also by air. Thanks to the resistance and organised war of the KLA units operating in these mountain ranges, such as the 121 “Isari Jashari”, the Special Unit near Staff, the Logistics Unit and others, not only did they protect the spaces in which they were operating, but they became shields for hundreds of thousands of civil Albanians who had been expelled from their homes and who sought refuge in all these mountains' throats around the area.
Divjaka General Staff led by Chief of Staff General Agim Ceku, who was following General Sylejman Selimi, was the first KLA base to welcome the first NATO officers when they were airbound since 10 June 1999. This country and this House of Staff marks a historic moment of friendship and co-operation with NATO. This house was of elder Nezir Zogaj, a political prisoner with us who were prisoners of war, even after the war ended, with Nat Hasani, Bislim Zogajn, Enver Dugol, and many others in Serbia's prisons. Baca Neza is unforgettable even after death, just as this home is after liberation.
June 12th, it is the day of Kosovo's liberation, so we always remember and prided over Kosovo's freedom to organise the liberation war, winning not only the long-awaited freedom, but also the friendship and support of NATO with which we lined up straight and came off victorious.
On this day and on, we remember and we will not forget, heroes and martyrs, warriors and patriots of all generations and all the time that enabled us today to enjoy freedom.
Glory to them all!
